Want to cool off on a hot summer day? You’ve come to the right place! There are lots of beaches in the area, but if you’re in Grand Haven, spending some quality time at the State Park is a must! Kids and parents alike can play in the sand and swim to their hearts’ delight. There are also places to rent paddleboards and kayaks, and whether you’re being towed behind a boat, or enjoying a relaxing float down the Grand River, Grand Haven’s a great spot to go tubing, too!
Still looking for ways to keep cool? Check out the Splash Pad located near the marina. Young children love it!
Active Things to do in Grand Haven
Let’s face it, much to most parents’ dismay, kids can’t relax for all that long! Luckily, if you need to break up your downtime with some fun activities for the whole family, there are plenty of options around.
You can take a hike on area trails or visit nearby nature centers. Tee up some family fun at Grand Haven’s putt-putt golf course located on Chinook Pier, near the fish station along the channel.
Kids of all abilities will enjoy the all-accessible Mulligan’s Hollow playground near the Y. Plus, right close by you’ll find a skate park as well as a giant dune to climb, and of course run down!
Things to do in Grand Haven’s Downtown
If you’ve got kids, or even if you’re just a kid at heart, you have to stop in MacKite! Inside this shop, you’ll not only find all sorts of cool kites to fly, but also an assortment of unique games and toys the whole family will love.
For those interested in the area’s history, (or interested in kick-starting your kids into learning mode!), be sure to explore the Tri-Cities Historical Museum before you head home and the kids head back to class.
Yummy Things to do in Grand Haven
What’s summertime without ice cream, right? Well, the good news is there are plenty of shops to stop for a cone in Grand Haven! Take a stroll along the channel and you’ll find delicious sweet treats at a place called the Pier Peddler, as well as Hawaiian shaved ice at Halaula. There are also shops under the deck near Snug Harbor, and if you head down Harbor Drive, you’ll find even more!
Stop at Dairy Treat, or go further north toward the waterfront stadium and try Dairy Creme or Temptations (or why not enjoy all three? Summer’s almost over, after all!).
Right across the street, you can get fro-yo at the Pump House where families can also cram in the onsite photo booth and make silly faces for a fun end-of-summer souvenir!
You can even head east of town and go through the drive-thru at Skoops, or get your fill at Norms, known for their giant portions that’ll last you until next summer!
